The times they are a changing ...

Hello my lovelies, I can't believe it's almost the middle of April and I haven't done a post this month!

I have been poorly sick and not so well for a couple of weeks, but hopefully am coming out of it now, now that the Easter holidays are almost over and time to get back to normal!

I promise that I will get my blogging mojo back soon, but as the title of this post suggests, there are a few changes going on at the Thriftwood homestead! My firstborn, Olly, has flown the nest (only round the corner, so he can still bring his washing and come for tea!)

courtesy Google
This means, ladies (and gentlemen, if there are any of you reading this) that I will soon have a workroom ... I won't have to get everything out, only to have to put it all away in the bulging cupboards when tea time beckons. No, a purpose made, workroom all of my own! There will be work surfaces, shelves, cupboards and prettiness abounding! Haha, I can't even sew! I am inspired to learn though, as it is in the genes ... don't you just love The Great British Sewing Bee?

This is the vision dancing around in my head ....

And this is the grim reality ...

Just a little peek ...

The bare bones ...

Lots of tlc required ...

A little bit of upcycling ...

Boring preparation, but I promise I'll keep you updated. I'm wondering whether this should feature in the room, what do you think? I'm glad I saved it, but I do only have one roll, so I'll have to be really careful ...

We've a busy weekend ahead, with Olly and his girlfriend visiting, Jacob and Jules coming for the weekend from Leeds (as long as it doesn't snow ... this usually happens!) and lots of family meals, hopefully there'll be a bit of cake eating at Violet's and carbooting going on too!

I'll catch up with you all soon, and until then, have a wonderful weekend, I have to go, as my freshly laid breakfast is beckoning ....

Love, Claire xxx

  1. I'm looking forward to seeing how your workroom progresses. I used to have one prior to my two lovely sons being born, in those days I was into machine knitting, especially mohair jumpers (it was the 80s). Have a lovely weekend:) x

    1. Hello Daffy! Ooh I remember the mohair jumpers of the 80's, they made me sneeze and scratch ...

It's taken a long time for me to have a space of my own, and with all my children, I never expected it to happen, but I'm hearing the fluttering of tiny feathers, but luckily 2 are still in the nest!

  2. How exciting, getting your own workroom, and there's me getting all excited because I am no longer sharing my conservatory space with dolls houses and playmobil!!! Have fun, what's the colour of the wardrobe your painting? And that paper is a must! :) x

    1. Hello Ada, ooh do share your conservatory, I'm sure it's gorgeous with lots of vintage cushions and prettiness!

The wardrobe is Annie Sloan Antoinette, but will look much more matt than on the pic as I had literally just daubed it on!

      Have a Wonderful Weekend!

  6. A work landing sounds good too! Just having your own little space that you don't have to pack up every time you use it will be fabulous ...

    Good luck with your dahlias!

  7. Welcome back, hope you're feeling lots better soon. OOh, how exciting - a workspace that doesn't have to be cleared away for tea time! I love my little craftroom and I know you will get so much enjoyment out of planning and decorating and organizing it ...and then the even-more-fun bit: creating in it! Loving the Sewing Bee and after my recent dressmaking workshop, I'm itching to do the next one - making a reversible skirt (a la Whitestuff). Looking forward to seeing the progress of your new space - that's the upside to the birdies flying the next. I remember I hadn't even cleared out all my stuff before my dad painted over my pink walls and claimed my room as his music room!
    Have a lovely weekend, Claire.

  9. Well it may be a boring blank canvas, but then blank canvasses usually are, until you let your imagination free! That paper is gorgeous, would make lovely panels on a cupboard, or just paper one wall in it - but then you wouldn't want to cover the wall with pictures or anything would you, and certainly not hide it with furniture. Panels on desk drawers... cupboard doors... or take some panels of the paper and frame them in simple white frames and place on a wall which will show them off?
By the way, Google is not doing blogging any more, or something like that, in a few months so we have to join another site to view blogs, and if your blog isn't on it, we can't see it. Not too sure about it all, just confusion as far as I am concerned. But I am going to add mine to bloglovin and hope for the best!

  16. So glad you are having some creative transitional fun, and starting to feel better as well, Claire. My mom used to use the dining room table for her many creative pursuits which was a constant trial for her when she had to stow it all away for social occasions. My creative projects are tucked in baskets on IKEA shelves in my room so I spend a good bit of time rearranging things for current projects, ....but it somehow seems better than the dining room table :)

Many thanks for your comments on my previous post and you feeling so poorly at the time too. How are you now?
What an exciting project and aren't you so so very lucky to be able to have your own workroom. I bet you are just dying to get in there and get it all sorted. Will your one roll of wallpaper be sufficient for one wall? One small narrow wall perhaps??? I definitely think you should keep it and use it.

I hope you keep us posted about your decor progress with your workroom. I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out. I shouldn't be really because I so envy you having your own room for crafting. LOL!

  25. Glad you're feeling better - there seem to be lots of bugs going around. You won't know yourself, with a 'studio' of your own! When we took our youngest to uni, I phoned him that evening to see how he was doing and he said 'How long did it take you to put a sewing machine in my bedroom?' 'About 20 minutes' I replied - he knows me so well! Last year I removed the bed and bought one that dismantles easily just in case they all come home at the same time and I think he was a bit put out. Nothing like a gentle hint!

  26. Hi Claire, glad to see you back again! Hope your pesky illness has gone for good now. I'm so envious of you with your own workroom ... I used to have a sewing room until the kids arrived, now I have a corner which is set up nicely, but I rarely can get INTO that corner! I'm so looking forward to seeing the wardrobe and the entire room done up 'Claire' style ;) You must promise to show progress photos as you go along.
