I need a little time ...

Good morning, my lovelies! I don't seem able to get a minute these days to catch up with you all ... I've got a big fair coming up in a fortnight, so every spare moment is spent, paintbrush in hand, titivating furniture within an inch of its life, and making and creating.

Once that's over, Steve and I are going to the great metropolis for a few days ... alone, just us two! Never before has this happened, as we've always had a little tribe following in our wake ... at the beginning of July we celebrate our Silver Wedding, so are treating ourselves to a nice little trip to London ... we don't really want to do the typical touristy things, as we've done that with our family ... we want to explore the hidden treasures of our capital, so if any of you lovely people have any suggestions, I'd be very grateful! We will be there Friday, Saturday and most of Sunday.

I am missing you all, and promise that as soon as the chaos that is my life at the moment, quietens down, I will be visiting you all, and leaving so many comments, that you'll wish I stayed away! Harry is now home from Uni for the summer ... yesterday was spent emptying his room on campus and bringing back 9 months of washing, and other lovely things ... a bagful of unwashed crockery, anyone?

With that delightful image in your head, I'll love you and leave you, and until next time, here's some flowers for you ...

Love, Claire xxx

PS: Can't wait to find out what you've all been doing xx

  1. Oh I wondered what you've been up to. Hope the fair goes really well and you have a lovely day. Early congratulations for your silver wedding. It will be wonderful for the two of you just to spend sometime together. The bag of unwashed crockery made me laugh. That's students for you. Have a lovely week.

    1. Hi Ali, thanks for dropping in! You'll have your lovely girl back for the summer, but can't imagine that she would have such gross habits ...

      Have a Happy Monday

    2. Congratulations Claire, 25 years of happy days is wonderful. We had a nice time in London at Christmas just the two of us and stayed at the Travelodge on Marylebone Road within easy walk of most things. You can get tube/bus tickets so you can jump on and off everything. We like Borough Market and walking from there along the embankment and also Covent Garden is nice in the evening, Portobello Road on a Friday (you can tell we like markets - but it's the atmosphere we like and the smells/sounds)... Neals Yard Covent Garden do trainee days on Sundays so you can get a very low price aromatherapy massage if you book ahead. Hope you have lots of fun. Betty

    3. Hello Betty, all sounds great fun, and I do want to see some of the markets ... have been to Camden and Covent Garden a few times, so would like to go somewhere different this time. Thank you! xxx

  2. Ah, don't think it's just students at Uni who do that - my eldest saves up his washing and washing up in his bedroom and then brings it down in huge amounts!! His idea of tidying his bedroom is to put all of his clothes for washing whether they are dirty/have been worn or not!!! Bet you're still happy happy he's home though...Have a fab anniversary trip to London. XX

    1. Ah Suzanne, it's not just mine that do that then? Millie gets a pile of clean, ironed laundry ... places it on a chair already teetering with clothes and other 'stuff'' ... then when it falls off goes back in the wash basket ... grrr! xx

      Hope your week's wonderful xxx

    3. Oh the luxury of having your washing done, ironed and folded ready to put away ... your very own laundry service! One day they may appreciate what we did for them... but it'll be too late then! xxx

  3. Just so you know...I can't stop singing "I need a little time to think it over, I need a little time...." by the Beautiful South - just wondering is that what you based the title on?! XX

  4. Yes it is Suzanne! I always try to base my titles on song lyrcs ... sometimes they just pop into my head and I base a post on them, at other times I have to search for lyrics that go with my post ... I'm a strange one I know!

The Beautiful South were one of my favourite groups, and 2 weeks ago I was lucky enough to see The South (half of the original group ... is the other half called Beautiful?) in my hometown and they were fabulous! One of my recent posts was titled 'Annabel too' taken from Song for Whoever xxx

  5. Well all these laundry stories are the same here!! Now that my daughter is home from university, she's forgotten how to use the laundry machine(?). Hmmm ... I too get clean, folded clothes in the dirty pile, but I put them back in her drawer. Ah kids ... I think they really will appreciate what we do for them eventually, but it may not be until their own kids come home from university. Good luck with your fair Claire, your pieces look really nice. I've been outside gardening every spare moment trying to get things organized so I can enjoy the summer (they seem to be getting shorter each year). Not much blogging for me either, but am trying to keep up a bit each morning. Enjoy your week! Wendy xox

  11. Congratulations Claire, and enjoy your time in London. My suggestion would be for you to go to Greenwich. Take the Thames Clipper from Westminster Bridge or from the London Eye and stay on to there until the Cutty Sark in Greenwich. It isn't full to the brim as all the other touristy places in the centre of London with people. Instead you have wide open spaces with the Royal Park, the National Maritime Museum, the Queen's House, The Cutty Sark. Up the hill you have the Royal Observatory and the most amazing views of London. Further back you have Black Heath. I did a post on this favourite place of mine... http://sweetbriardreams.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/so-where-shall-we-go-on-our-journey.html and it has some links on it to help you on your way. A couple of friends of mine have recently been on my recommendation and really loved it. Have a wonderful time whatever you do my lovely xx

  12. Ooh thank you Chel ... We were planning to go to Greenwich, and now you've made me want to even more. I do remember reading your post, and last year when I came to London with my friends we went by boat to the Tower and that is definitely my preferred mode of transport! Will tell all when we get back, and thanks for your help sweetie!

  15. Gosh it seems as though it was just yesterday that you were posting about taking Harry off to Uni and now he is home again first year done! Where on earth did all that time go.... So I guess that once you have got the fair done - hope it goes well - you will be instructing Harry in the finer arts of housekeeping so that next year he doesn't bring home 9 months worth of cleaning! Hope that you have a great anniversary and find lots of lovely things to do in London! xx

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hello Amy, in September Harry will be in a house with his friends ... thing could be even messier! I'll have to be prepared to roll my sleeves up whenever I visit (something I remember very well when visiting Jacob!) ... I agree, that 9 months has flown past.

Thank you for all your good wishes, they mean a lot to me!

    Have a terrific Tuesday xxx

  18. Congratulations on 25 years. We were in West London this weekend for the rugby at Twickenham. It's a lovely area right on the Thames where
You can catch a boat at Richmond up river to Teddington and go to Hampton Court or Kew gardens is just down the road as well. Wherever you go have a great time.

  20. Hi Claire, I'd recommend Columbia Road flower market and the small shops along the same road on a Sunday morning. It's so pretty and quirky. We lived near it years ago, so I know it well, and it's just a lovely place. The South Bank, near the Globe Theatre is also worth strolling past, you can go mudlarking on the river banks at low tide and find all sorts of treasures. Have a wonderful trip what ever you decide to do! Fiona x

  27. Congratulations on your Silver Wedding - it's an achievement these days! I did a post about a day trip I took to London, to spend some time with our daughter - http://wordpress.com/read/post/id/19284480/4771/ - it was lovely. You may miss the Antiques stalls on a Thursday at Greenwich, but our daughter loves shopping there at the weekends. It's so lovely and there's the Cutty Sark and Maritime Museum too - bit touristy but lovely historical interest. I just love the Thames clipper taxi boats - worth every very reasonable penny!
