Miss Millie's Leaver's Ball took place last night, and I had a tear in my eye when my shy little girl turned into a beautiful, sophisticated young lady before my very eyes ...
Millie had said she wanted something different for her prom dress, and I was rather daunted by this, as I really don't like shopping, especially when I don't really know what I'm looking for. However, I did a Vintage Fair in my hometown on Easter Saturday, and as there were lots of racks of dresses, I rang Millie to come over and have a look, as you just never know ...
Among the rails, Millie found a beautiful, apple green, full length dress. I was dubious at first, but she tried it on and it fit like a glove ... a real Cinderella moment! We bought it, along with a vintage pink and green necklace, and I was so happy that I'd been spared the trauma of numerous fittings in plush prom shops ...
Millie & Harry xx |
A friend arranged the transport ... an amazing, vintage e-type Jaguar arrived to collect Millie, so she really turned up in style!
This is my favourite photograph, and I fiddled about with the filters, but much prefer it in black and white ...
When we arrived (me following on behind in my battered Micra), Millie met her friends, who all looked amazing too ...
I stayed until they went into dinner,
I haven't downloaded the pictures from my camera yet, these are from my Instagram feed so they are a bit blurry and grainy so I may bore you with more ....
Have a wonderful weekend, and hope that the sun shines on you all this weekend!
Love Claire xxx (still on a high)
Hi Claire Millie looks absolutely stunning in her dress, its good to be different, prom dresses are so predictable. I know when Alice had her prom she wanted a plain dress, not long or fussy, she found one in T K Max or all places very plain but with a lot of fringing on the bottom, like a flapper dress, she was the only one with a short dress on and stood out from all the pink fluff! Good for Millie. Julie.xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you Julie, Alice's sounds wondeful too! It's good to be different xxx
DeleteShe looks gorgeous - love the vintage frock - nice to see someone going with their own look rather than the identikit norm :)
ReplyDeleteNo Proms this year for either of my two - however next summer there are two!!!
Ooh Vicki, two in one year? Not sure I could cope with that! Thanks for your kind comments xxx
DeleteHello Claire,
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous ......dress and young lady....beautiful combination. I look forward to a close up of the dress to admire it some more. I do also like the way Millie did her hair as it suits her no end.
keep well
Amanda xx
PS: we are still here I see and I see no changes.....tch! typical....tut!!!!
Hello Amanda, thanks so much! RE: Google, all that fuss for nothing ... xxx
Deletetotally agree!!!
DeleteYes please lets see more of your pretty girl in her stunning dress. That dress really suits her.
ReplyDeleteJulie xxxxxxxxx
Oh go on then Julie! Part 2 will follow next time ... Thank you for being so kind xxx
DeleteOh how wonderful, to see a young woman doing her own thing and not being a sheep! Very individual, she looks the bees knees in the dress, well done her for going vintage! Bet you were so proud! :) x
ReplyDeleteThank you Ada, I was very proud! I'm glad she knows what she likes and doesn't just conform to fit in.
DeleteHave a lovely weekend xxx
How glam - how did you get her lovely hair to be so smooth? Well done with spotting the dress - lovely to have something unique and different. All that and a Jag! Wowser!!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Jenny
Ooh Jenny I can't take any credit for her hair! Our lovely hairdresser did that, with a pic of Brigitte Bardot to copy off ... Lots of back combing and Kirkby grips were involved xx
DeleteHi Claire, what a stunning dress and Millie looks absolutely gorgeous in it. I'd love to see more pics. I'm really dreading this prom thing. People round our way pay ridiculous prices for ridiculous (in my opinion) dresses that they'll never wear again. Oops that was very nearly a rant. Sorry, have a fabulous sunny weekend. xx
ReplyDeleteDon't mind if you rant Loo because I understand exactly what you mean! Do your own thing and your girl will stand out for all the right reasons ... xxx
DeleteOoh, yes please to more Proud Mummy pics! Millie looks absolutely gorgeous - I love that she went for the vintage look, and a wee bit different from the norm. It suits her so well, she's beautiful. Love the dress, love the hair, just love, love, love...
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm glad the sun came out too :-)
Have a fab weekend,
xx
Thank you Gilly! It was perfect ... and beautiful weather as well xxxx
DeleteLovely choice, and the green of the dress is perfect with her dark hair. So glad the sun shone for them all too.
ReplyDeleteThank you s much for your lovely comments, and lovely of you to drop in xx
DeleteYour daughter looked absolutely gorgeous, our children grow up so fast don't they?
ReplyDeleteThat is also... the most perfect dress!
Have a great weekend!
Tammy
Thank you Tammy, yes they do grow up so fast, Milie is almost 16 and my youngest, it's gone so fast!
DeleteHave a lovely weekend xx
Not only does your daughter look fantastic but isn't it a warm and fuzzy feeling when your offspring demonstrate that they have absorbed and appreciate some of your own lifestyle choices when it comes to the crunch! Share the vintage love <3
ReplyDeleteShe certainly does share the love! Thank you xxxx
DeleteWow, that is a beautiful dress on a beautiful young woman. x
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeanette, you're very kind, but I agree with everything you say!
DeleteLove Claire xxx
Millie looks so beautiful in her lovely dress. What a great find. Hope she had a wonderful evening. A very special moment for you all.
ReplyDeleteSarah x
She had a lovely evening Sarah, than you so much. I'm so happy she found the dress (or the dress found her) as I really feel it was made for her the fit was so good. Most vintage dresses we see are absolutely tiny, but this was made for a curvy girl and fit perfectly.
DeleteHave a wonderful weekend xxxx
She looks stunning Claire, you must be so proud of your baby..
ReplyDeleteSuch a very special time to look back on for you all
I hope your little Cinderella had a wonderful time
Thea xx
P.S I loved her carriage
Hi Thea, I have replied to you but it's wandered off and you can find it below! xxx
DeleteMillie looks lovely and the dress was a real find - definitely much nicer than something from a High Street shop! Her hair looks fab, and what a car! I for one will be delighted to see more photos - I keep looking over the ones we took on Monday of my daughter's getting-ready-for-'Prom'. Tear to the eye most times I do!
ReplyDeletex
Thak you Alix, I'll definitely sort some more pics out, because Millie took a camera too! Thank you for your lovely comments xxxx
DeleteAw thanks so much Thea! It ws lovely having a girl to get ready after 3 boys who didn't seem very bothered with the whole thing ...
ReplyDeleteMillie had an amazing time, and has spent today looking a everyone else's photos on Facebook.
Hope you have a wondeful sunshine filled weekend, Thea xxx
Claire she looks beautiful and the dress is a dream. My daughter's prom was 3 years ago now - she too wanted something different and went for a 'Hell Bunny' short gothic frock which looked stunning - and (although I'm biased) looked so eyecatching amongst the rainbow of froth and glitter. Glad she had a good time - good memories for the Mommy memory bank ;)
ReplyDeleteOoh I'd like to see that dress Kim! Although everyone looked gorgeous, there was a 'sameness' to a lot of them, which is fine, but I'm glad she had the confidence to know what she wanted and carry it off ...
DeleteHave a wonderful weekend Kim, and enjoy this lovely weather!
Love Claire xxx
She looks so beautiful and is obviously a young lady of discerning taste. I hope she had a great evening x
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Fran, what a kind comment ... she had a fabulous evening and came home absolutely buzzing!

ReplyDeleteThanks Maria ...you had a little dress rehearsal, so knew what was coming! Millie said "hi Maria and thank you"
DeleteSee you soon

Hi Claire, your daughter looked fabulous in her dress,I bet she had a great time.Have a lovley weekend 'bye for now Pam.
ReplyDeleteHello Pam, thank you so much ... It's always lovely to 'see' you! xx
DeleteOh Claire, Millie looks beautiful. Her dress is absolutely gorgeous. It was obviously meant to be. Don't tell her friends but Millie's dress looks stunning in comparison to theirs. I bet she was thrilled to be arriving in such a gorgeous car, nothing but the best for such a pretty lady. Hope you didn't have to use too many tissues as a proud Mum.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to be bored with more photos. Hope your enjoying lots of sun up in Cumbria.
Ali x
Thank you Ali ... Such kind comments, thank you! I've just noticed you a the top of my sidebar, so going to pop over to you now ....
ReplyDeleteHope your Sunday is a sunny one too!
Lov Claire xx
Oh I'd love to see more photos, Millie looks wonderful! How proud you must be, I loved watching all the teenagers arrive last year at my son's prom - of course all we had to do was buy a plain suit & tie! I can't wait for all the fuss of finding a dress when it's my daughter's turn, a few years away yet!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jay! Millie has some more photos, so I'll see what I can do ... two of my sons had plain suits too, but Millie's was the least costly of all of them! Will be lovely looking for everything for your daughter ...
DeleteLove Claire xxx
What a fab frock and her hairdo looks so pretty - no wonder you were a proud Mum!
ReplyDeleteThanks Louise ... it's always lovely of you to pop in, you're very welcome!
DeleteHope you're enjoying the sunshine

Dear Claire,
ReplyDeleteHow gorgeous Millie is and dressed in such a beautiful vintage dress.
You must be so proud and can see how you had a tear in your eye. Must have been a fun evening with all the glamour and arriving in style in the amazing car.
Enjoy the new week
hugs
Carolyn
Hello Carolyn ... thank you so much and yes it was a very glam affair!
DeleteHope your week's going well!
Love Claire xx
How stunningly beautiful does she look!! The dress is pretty special too and great photos. Why does it come round so quickly - all this growing up lark?
ReplyDeleteP x
Ooh P, I know! I get really wistful when I look at pictures of my children when they were little, but we can't keep them like that forever, can we?
DeleteIs it me, or do the years seem to be passing more quickly, the older we get?
Hope you're enjoying the sunny weather
Love Claire xxx
She looks so pretty! That dress is really fabulous and she wears it really well. How cool to be so young and have such a great sense of style. xx
ReplyDeleteYou're very kind Gillian! Millie does have great style and puts things together that I would never have dreamed of, with great results! She doesn't like shopping on the high street though ... she likes nothing more than rooting through a rail at a charity shop or car boot sale!
DeleteHave a wonderful week
Claire xxx
Hello Claire! Millie looks amazing in her vintage dress ... what a sweet smile she has! I think it's great that she chose to be different, and that you found the dress so easily! I love how her hair was styled too ... really suits the style of dress. It does make you suddenly aware of how quickly they've grown when you see them dressed up so beautifully, doesn't it. Have a great week Claire (I've been away, and am just catching up) Wendy x
ReplyDeleteOh thank you Wendy, you are kind!
DeleteHope you've had a great time, and looking forward to reading all about it ...
Love Claire xxx
She does look truly gorgeous. I'd be very proud too for a daughter who is confident enough to want to be individual. Not as easy at that age. I was never a follower at 16 and used to make my boyfriend's younger brother roar with laughter at the clothes I wore. He found it truly entertaining.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great start to the evening too Claire having the jag to get her there.
Thank you so much as always for your lovely words. I was really flattered to be described as a favourite magazine.
My apologies as always for not visiting more often, I can't work out how anyone manages to visit all the wonderful blogs there out there to read. It can be a bit overwhelming at times.
Lisa X
What a fabulous find that vintage frock was! Millie, you fabulous :)
ReplyDeleteI'll never forget that girl to woman moment at my younger daughter's Year 11 prom ... so very special.
Stunning, Millie looks stunning! I hope she had a great night, Hazel x
ReplyDeleteaw she looks beautiful Claire and so pleased that the sun came out for her ! Gail x
ReplyDeleteIt's in the genes you know, my youngest also has her eyes on some of my vintage pieces. She looks beautifully original.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful dress you found! Milly looks fabulous! And even the weather has been perfect too :)
